Complete HSK 1-6 Curriculum

The HSK Pathway
explained

HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) is the official international standardized test of Mandarin proficiency, administered by Hanban under China's Ministry of Education. Here's what each level means, where it leads, and who recognizes it.

Who MMC is for

MMC is not for families looking for the cheapest Mandarin class.

MMC is for families who want structured, measurable Mandarin learning guided by qualified teachers and realistic education planning.

Six levels, one journey

Each level builds on the last. The hours shown below are standard HSK reference times — MMC's structured method typically finishes HSK 1 or HSK 2 in just 20 hours per level, and most students complete HSK 1-4 within the first year.

What HSK unlocks

HSK is more than a language test. It's a credential that opens universities, scholarships, careers, and opportunities across Asia and beyond.

HSK 4-6

University Admission

Most Chinese universities require HSK 4 for undergraduate programs and HSK 5-6 for graduate study. NUS, NTU, and HKU count HSK for Mandarin-track programs.

HSK 4-5

CSC Scholarships

The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) and provincial scholarships require HSK 4-5. Full tuition, accommodation, and monthly stipend for qualified students.

HSK 5-6

Employment in China

Multinational companies operating in China, joint ventures, and Chinese state-owned enterprises require HSK 5-6 for non-technical roles. Many add a 15-30% pay premium.

HSK 4-5

Business & Trade

Singapore-China, Indonesia-China, ASEAN-China trade roles list HSK as a preferred qualification. Especially valuable for finance, logistics, and manufacturing.

HSK 5-6

Teaching & Translation

Mandarin teaching certifications, tourism licenses, and translation work in many countries require documented HSK proficiency. HSK 6 is the gold standard.

HSK 5-6

Government & Diplomacy

Diplomatic services, trade missions, foreign service exams, and international organizations (UN, ASEAN, ADB) recognize HSK as a measurable Mandarin credential.

How we work

We treat you like a project. Goal, scope, timeline, pace — we curate every lesson around you, not around a fixed textbook.

  1. 1
Trial lesson · Serena Laoshi or your assigned educator observes your tone, grammar instinct, response speed, and what topics light you up.
  2. 2
Personalised assessment within 24 hours · You receive written feedback: what you're already strong at, the main area for improvement, and an honest hours-to-goal estimate (e.g., 30-40 hours to HSK 3).
  3. 3
Curated curriculum · Lessons built around your actual use case — a trip, an exam, your kid's school, your client meetings. Our character-memorisation system is built-in.
  4. 4
Notes + homework · Written follow-up so you never lose continuity between lessons.
  5. 5
Milestone check-ins every 8-10 hours · We review progress against the goal and adjust pace, scope, or method if needed.
Sample post-trial assessment we send

“The student was focused throughout the trial, with strong academic instincts — quick response and natural application of the patterns I introduced. He showed real motivation, sharing his level, his strengths, and his interests openly, which let the lesson flow.”

“His grammar is already solid and the bilingual reflex is evident. The main area to refine is pronunciation and tones — the most challenging part of Chinese for non-native learners, but very fixable with structured work. Once his tones are tightened, he'll sound noticeably closer to a native speaker.”

“Based on today, I estimate around 30-40 hours of focused study to reach HSK 3 — solid conversational readiness ahead of his trip to China. The goal isn't only the exam. It's practical confidence in real-life situations.”

“Character memorisation is handled by our system — no need to worry about that. With the right structure, I'm confident he'll progress quickly. Lesson notes and homework will follow tonight or tomorrow.”
